  Sophia Dembling was born and reared in New York City but in the early 1980s, to the deep and everlasting puzzlement of family and friends, she decided to move to Dallas, Texas, for an adventure. Subletting her closet-sized apartment in Manhattan’s East Village, she crammed a bunch of junk in a VW Rabbit and drove to Texas, figuring she’d last about six months. She had never been to Dallas (though she had visited Fort Worth a few times), knew just one person, and had no job lined up.
  Twenty years later, Sophia is still in Texas, where she has acquired a husband, a house, two dogs, a peculiar accent, and a writing career that started at The Dallas Morning News and expanded to newspapers and magazines nationwide. (She no longer has her little New York apartment but wishes she did.)
   An award-winning travel writer, Sophia has traveled extensively, from Russia to Ecuador and points between. And because her philosophy is “Life should always be interesting,” Sophia started college for the first time in her 40s, to pursue a degree in psychology. She is also a partner of FactChasers.
